For our inaugural podcast, film historian Ron Hutchinson brings the era of THE ARTIST to life. Hutchinson is the founder of The Vitaphone Project, which has located nearly 4000 soundtrack disks for very early talkies, and has worked with The Library of Congress, UCLA and Warner Brothers in restoring nearly 150 of the earliest sound shorts. Our conversation clarifies some controversies surrounding the Best Picture of 2011, touches upon the recent restoration of William Wellman’s WINGS (1927) and previews the upcoming CineFest convention in Syracuse, New York.
